IRE vs PAK: Ireland Defeats Pakistan in T20I After 17 Years

Ireland beat Pakistan by 5 wickets.

Ireland secured a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening T20I of the three-match series in Dublin, hence taking a 1-0 lead.

Putting to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 182 runs for the loss of six wickets, with Babar Azam leading the charge with a 57-run knock off 43 deliveries. Saim Ayub also contributed with 45 runs from 29 deliveries.

In reply, Ireland relied on Andrew Balbirnie’s 77-run innings from 55 balls, along with significant contributions from Harry Tector, George Dockrell, and Curtis Campher, to chase down the target in 19.5 overs.

This win marks Ireland’s first triumph over Pakistan in T20 internationals since 2007. Moreover, what’s even more interesting is that Ireland and Pakistan have been placed in the same group for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
