AB de Villiers Hasn’t Achieved Anything Big in IPL: Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir slammed AB de Villiers for his recent remarks on Hardik Pandya.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has slammed AB de Villiers over his recent comments about Hardik Pandya’s captaincy for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

Recently, on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers criticized Hardik Pandya’s body language as captain of Mumbai Indians, stating that he appears ego-driven.

As captain of Mumbai Indians this season, Hardik Pandya has managed only four wins out of 13 games, leading the five-time champions to become the first team eliminated from playoff contention.

During an exclusive segment on Sportskeeda’s SK Match ki Baat, Gautam Gambhir questioned the leadership abilities of AB de Villiers during his tenure with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.

“What were their own performances when they were captains? I don’t think, whether it’s Kevin Pietersen or AB de Villiers, they had any notable leadership performances in their careers. If you look at their records, there’s nothing. AB de Villiers, I don’t think he has achieved anything significant in the IPL besides his personal scores. From a team’s perspective, I don’t think he has achieved much.”

Hardik Pandya has also been appointed as the vice-captain of Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June. It will be interesting to see how he performs with bat and ball in this crucial biennial tournament.
