Virat Kohli Becomes First Batter to Reach 8000 Runs in IPL History

Virat Kohli was just 29 runs shy of unlocking 8000-run achievement in IPL before this game against RR.

Virat Kohli added another feather to his illustrious career as he became the first batter to ever reach the coveted mark of 8000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

The 35-year-old achieved this phenomenal feat during the Eliminator clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Virat Kohli, currently enjoying a stellar season with over 700 runs, needed only 29 more to etch his name in the record books. In the end, his stay at the crease was cut short at 33 runs from 24 balls by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 8th over.

Virat Kohli’s Dominance in IPL 2024

This season’s performance echoes his most prolific year in the IPL, the unforgettable 2016 season where he amassed a staggering 973 runs. His outstanding batting form is one of the reasons behind the resurgence of RCB and their qualifying for the play-offs.

Kohli currently holds the prestigious Orange Cap, awarded to the leading run-scorer in the IPL with741 runs from 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.70. He has scored a single-digit score only once this season.
