Jason Holder has been ruled out of t20 World Cup 2024 due to injury

West Indies’ T20 World Cup 2024 campaign suffered a huge blow with the news that experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has been ruled out due to injury. Obed McCoy has been named as his replacement.

Jason Holder, a key player for the Windies, sustained the injury during the County Championship and will require a recovery period, and hence he was ruled out of the World Cup.

Desmond Haynes, West Indies chief selector, acknowledged the blow Holder’s absence deals to the team.

“His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field,” Haynes said. “We look forward to having a fully fit Jason with us again soon.”

While Haynes expressed disappointment at losing Holder, he also conveyed confidence in Obed McCoy‘s abilities to step up.

“We are confident in the abilities of Obed McCoy,” Haynes said. “Obed has shown remarkable skill and promise, and this opportunity will allow him to further showcase his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad.”

Holder is a veteran of 63 T20I matches for West Indies, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. He has 66 wickets and 491 runs to his name in the shortest format.

The West Indies are placed in Group C alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. Their campaign kicks off on Sunday, June 2nd against Papua New Guinea.
