Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan to Return Home After India vs Canada Match in T20 World Cup 2024
India has already qualified for the Super 8s.
Team India seems to have settled on their playing eleven for the upcoming Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, preferred over Shubman Gill, has impressed and cemented his spot alongside Rohit Sharma. The pace attack has also found rhythm, with all bowlers contributing wickets, leaving Avesh Khan, a travelling reserve, on the sidelines.
Reports suggest that both Shubman Gill and Avesh will return to India following the conclusion of the US leg. The duo flew with the team from New York to Fort Lauderdale on a chartered flight on Wednesday.
They were included as backups in case of injuries to key players. With the US round-robin complete, their services are no longer required. It’s important to note that Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, the other reserves, remain with the squad.
This development was somewhat expected. Gill, with Jaiswal as another backup in the main squad, has no choice but to return. India also has a strong backup opener in Jaiswal. Avesh Khan’s situation is similar.
The team already has a potent pace attack with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and the all-round capabilities of Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. In this scenario, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed becomes the more valuable reserve, providing cover for Arshdeep Singh if needed.
