An astonishing bowling spell by Trent Boult powered New Zealand to an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first ODI at the University Oval, Dunedin.

The likes of James Neesham and Mitchell Santner were also in the act as the visitors were bundled out for 131. Following this win, New Zealand now leads the three-match series 1-0.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first. The decision somewhere proved right as Bangladesh was reduced to 42/3 in the 14th over. Thereafter, they kept on losing successive wickets, and eventually crumbled for 131. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for the Black Caps with 4 wickets for 27.

The hosts easily completed the run-chase in the 20th overs, with Martin Guptill (38) and Henry Nicholls (49*) crushing the bowlers.

Mohammad Mithun’s Unfortunate Dismissal

Bangladesh batsman Mohammed Mithun had to walk back to the pavilion after being dismissed in an unlucky way. The incident happened in the 24th over of the first innings. Mahmudullah nailed a straight drive off New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham. While trying to stop the ball in his finish, Neesham wound up contacting it with his nails as it proceeded to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Mithun, who while backing up, was found outside his wrinkle and announced run-out by the third umpire.

Apart from this dismissal, Neesham also played pivotal roles in sending back Bangladesh opening batsman Liton Das (19) and wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (23) as the Bangladeshi batsmen failed to show resistance at the University Oval.
