A heated exchange between Nitish Rana and Ayush Badoni became the talking point during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 quarter-final. The match, held at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, saw Delhi and Uttar Pradesh players involved in an on-field altercation.
The incident occurred in the 13th over when Ayush Badoni, captaining Delhi, was batting. Nitish Rana, bowling for Uttar Pradesh, pulled out of his delivery, which didn’t sit well with Badoni. In response, Badoni stepped away from his stance just as Rana was about to bowl. This led to an argument after the next ball, with Badoni walking toward the non-striker’s end, where Rana intercepted him. The two exchanged words before the umpire intervened.

Ayush Badoni Gets the Last Laugh
While Ayush Badoni managed only 25 runs off 18 balls with three boundaries, he made a comeback in the second innings by dismissing Nitish Rana. Rana’s poor outing ended with just 2 runs off 3 balls, as Harsh Tyagi took a catch to send him back.
Match Recap: Delhi Dominate Uttar Pradesh
Delhi batted first and posted an impressive 193 runs. Openers Priyansh Arya (44) and Yash Dhull (42) gave the team a strong start with an 81-run partnership. Later, Anuj Rawat played a stellar knock, smashing an unbeaten 73 runs to ensure a massive total.
For Uttar Pradesh, bowlers Mohsin Khan, Vineet Parwar, and Nitish Rana picked up one wicket each.
In response, Uttar Pradesh lost early wickets, including openers Aryan Juyal and Karan Sharma. Priyam Garg’s half-century (54 runs) kept their hopes alive, but the chase faltered as Sameer Rizvi couldn’t deliver in the crucial moment. Delhi won by 19 runs, securing a spot in the semi-finals.
