IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma Overtakes Chris Gayle in Six-Hitting Record, Only Behind Pakistan Legend
Rohit Sharma has broken Chris Gayle's record of sixes in ODI cricket.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma added another milestone to his name during the second ODI against England at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. The star opener, known for his explosive batting, surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle to become the second-highest six-hitter in ODI history.
Chasing a target of 305, India started strongly with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting on a solid opening stand. Rohit, in particular, looked in fine touch, playing some stunning shots early in his innings. During this knock, he smashed multiple sixes, taking his overall tally to 332 in ODIs, going past Chris Gayle’s 331.
With this achievement, Rohit now stands just behind former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who leads the charts with 351 sixes in ODIs.
Most Sixes in ODIs:
351 – Shahid Afridi
332 – Rohit Sharma *
331 – Chris Gayle
270 – Sanath Jayasuriya
229 – MS Dhoni
220 – Eoin Morgan
Rohit Sharma has faced a rough patch in recent months across formats, but this innings could be a turning point for him. At the time of writing, he is batting on 29 off 18 balls and looking set for a big score. If he continues this form, he might soon become the player with the most sixes in ODI history.
