Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scripted history in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) by successfully chasing a 202-run target against Gujarat Giants (GGTW) – the first-ever successful 200-plus run chase in WPL history.
Gujarat Giants Post 201 on the Board
After opting to bowl first, RCB found themselves under pressure as Gujarat Giants posted a mammoth 201/5 in 20 overs. Beth Mooney led the charge with a 42-ball 56, while Ashleigh Gardner stole the show with an unbeaten 79 off just 37 balls, smashing three fours and eight sixes. Deandra Dottin (25 off 13) and Simran Shaikh (11 off 5) provided late fireworks.
For RCB, Renuka Singh (2/25) was the most economical bowler, while Kanika Ahuja, Georgia Wareham, and Prema Rawat picked up one wicket each.
Richa Ghosh Powers RCB to Victory
RCB’s chase started shakily as they lost Smriti Mandhana (9) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (4) within two overs. However, Ellyse Perry kept them in the hunt with a blistering 57 off 34 balls before falling in the 13th over.
At 109/4, RCB still needed 93 runs in 7.4 overs, and that’s when Richa Ghosh turned the game on its head. The wicketkeeper-batter played a sensational unbeaten knock of 64 off just 27 balls, hammering seven fours and four sixes. She was well supported by Kanika Ahuja (30* off 13), who also played a crucial cameo.
The duo’s aggressive stroke play saw RCB chase down the target in 18.3 overs, completing a historic run chase in the WPL.
First-Ever 200+ Chase in WPL History
This victory marks the first time in WPL history that a team has successfully chased down a target of over 200 runs. Richa Ghosh emerged as the game-changer, delivering one of the most impactful innings of the tournament.
