BCCI’s New Rule: Indian Players Must Take Permission to Bring Family for One Match in Champions Trophy 2025
BCCI has allowed Indian players to have their families attend only one match during the Champions Trophy 2025, but prior approval is required.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly allowed Indian players to have their families in Dubai for just one match during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This comes after initial reports suggested that families would not be permitted on the tour at all.
India is set to play all its matches in Dubai, including the semi-final and final if they qualify. The tournament begins on February 19, with India playing their first match on February 20 against Bangladesh.
Limited Family Access for Players
Last month, reports emerged that the BCCI had introduced stricter discipline guidelines after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The new policy restricted the time players could spend with their families during overseas tours.
As per these rules, for tours longer than 45 days, players’ families could stay with them for up to two weeks. Initially, there were speculations that families would not be allowed to travel to the UAE for the Champions Trophy.
However, according to a report by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has relaxed its stance. Players will now be allowed to bring their families for one match, provided they seek prior approval.
A BCCI official stated that since the entire squad is already in Dubai, no family members traveled with them from the beginning. He mentioned that players could bring their families for one match, but it is up to them whether they choose to do so.
Players Must Bear Expenses
As per PTI, a senior Indian cricketer had inquired about making an exception to the policy. However, the BCCI made it clear that while families would be allowed for one match, the player would have to bear all expenses personally. The board will not cover any costs related to travel or accommodation.
Group A of the Champions Trophy includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. India will start their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a high-voltage clash against Pakistan on February 23. They will then face New Zealand on March 2.
