IND vs BAN: Why Varun Chakravarthy Is Not Playing Today’s Match vs Bangladesh in Champions Trophy 2025?

Varun Chakravarthy couldn't get a place in India’s Playing XI against Bangladesh.

India made a surprising decision by leaving out spinner Varun Chakravarthy from their playing XI for the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh. The match is being played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 20.

Why Was Varun Chakravarthy Dropped?

Varun was included in India’s squad for the tournament after an impressive performance in the T20I series against England. However, he has not played much ODI cricket, which could be a reason for his exclusion.

India has chosen to bring back Ravindra Jadeja in place of Varun. Jadeja was rested for the third ODI against England but has now returned to strengthen the team’s all-round abilities. The management likely went with a safer and more experienced option for the first game of the tournament.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was not too disappointed, as he had planned to chase anyway.

Why Are India Playing in Dubai?

India is playing all its matches in Dubai because they refused to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. After long discussions between the BCCI and PCB, a hybrid model was agreed upon, with Dubai hosting India’s matches.
