Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma to Miss Match Against New Zealand?

Rohit Sharma is suffering from hamstring injury.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma is yet to fully recover from the hamstring issue he suffered during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan. Rohit picked up the injury while chasing a ball near the boundary and had to leave the field for some time.

However, he later came out to bat, scoring 20 off 15 balls in India’s six-wicket victory. The match’s hero was Virat Kohli, who scored a brilliant 100 off 102 balls*, helping India secure a place in the semi-finals.

Will Rohit Sharma Be Rested Against New Zealand?

On Wednesday, as Team India resumed training after a two-day break, Rohit did not bat in the nets. Instead, he worked with the strength and conditioning coach and the physiotherapist, as reported by the Indian Express. Although he came out for jogging, he did not run at full speed.

With the semi-final scheduled for March 4, India might not risk playing Rohit Sharma in their final group match against New Zealand on March 2 in Dubai. The team management is likely to prioritize his recovery for the knockout stage.

Who Will Replace Rohit Sharma?

If Rohit is rested, India will have to bring in a replacement in the playing XI. Reports suggest that Rishabh Pant or Washington Sundar could be included, as both spent considerable time batting in the nets on Wednesday.

The big question will be who will open the innings with Shubman Gill. While KL Rahul is an option, the team management may not want to change the middle-order. It remains to be seen how India adjusts their batting lineup for the match against New Zealand.
