‘Stop Saying That’ – AB de Villiers Gets ‘Warning’ From Virat Kohli Over RCB’s Famous Slogan ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’

AB de Villiers revealed that Virat Kohli personally asked him to stop chanting ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’.

The famous RCB chant ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’, which means ‘This year, the cup will be ours’, is well known among fans. However, former RCB star AB de Villiers has revealed that Virat Kohli asked him to stop using the slogan.

Why Did Kohli Ask de Villiers to Stop?

During a discussion on Star Sports Press Room, de Villiers shared that he received a direct message from Virat Kohli, asking him to avoid saying the phrase.

“I said those words the other day, and I got a direct message from Virat. He said, ‘Please just stop doing that now.’ So, I got into a bit of trouble,” de Villiers said.

The South African legend also admitted that he is tired of repeating the slogan every season.

“It’s exhausting to keep saying that the trophy is coming this year. The IPL is a tough tournament with 10 strong teams that can even win a World Cup. It’s not easy to win,” he added.

RCB’s Struggles Over the Years

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been one of the most popular IPL teams but has never won the title in 18 seasons. Despite reaching three finals, they have failed to lift the trophy.

de Villiers explained that several factors, such as travel, strategies, and injuries, affect a team’s performance in IPL. He also said that the teams that use their home advantage wisely often end up winning.

Hopes for IPL 2025

de Villiers is hopeful that RCB will finally win the title in 2025.

“I hope this is the year. The 18th season, number 18 on the back. If it happens, I will be there to lift the trophy with Virat,” he said.

RCB’s New Captain

Ahead of IPL 2025, RCB has made a major leadership change. Rajat Patidar will lead the team, replacing Faf du Plessis, who has joined Delhi Capitals.

Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is making a comeback to RCB after playing for the franchise in 2009-10 Champions League.

RCB fans will be hoping that this fresh start leads them to their first IPL trophy.
