IPL 2025: Eden Gardens Curator Denies Ajinkya Rahane’s Request for Spin-Friendly Pitch

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane is in the spotlight after requesting a spin-friendly pitch at Eden Gardens. However, the pitch curator, Sujan Mukherjee, has denied his request. He made it clear that the pitch conditions will remain the same and will not be changed for any team’s benefit.

Curator Stands Firm on Pitch Conditions

KKR did not have a good start in IPL 2025. They lost their first match to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). After the match, Rahane expressed his disappointment, saying he expected the pitch to support spinners.

However, his statement did not sit well with Mukherjee. He firmly stated that franchises do not have any control over the pitch. He also criticized KKR’s spinners for their poor performance.

“As long as I’m here, the Eden Gardens pitch will not change. According to IPL rules, franchises cannot decide pitch conditions. The pitches have always been like this, and they will not be altered in the future,” Mukherjee told RevSportz.

KKR Spinners Fail, While RCB Spinners Shine

Mukherjee also pointed out that RCB’s spinners performed well, while KKR’s struggled. He highlighted that Krunal Pandya took three wickets, and Suyash Sharma clean-bowled Andre Russell with a turning delivery. On the other hand, KKR’s spin attack failed to trouble RCB’s batters.

“Their spinners took four wickets, but what did KKR’s spinners do?” Mukherjee questioned.

KKR’s Next Match Against Rajasthan Royals

KKR will now face Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Both teams lost their first matches and will be eager to secure a win.
