Who is Smaran Ravichandran? SRH Sign Karnataka Batter as Adam Zampa’s Replacement in IPL 2025

Smaran Ravichandran, a young batter from Karnataka, has replaced injured Adam Zampa in the SRH squad for IPL 2025.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have suffered a big setback in IPL 2025. Their leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. To fill the spot, the team has brought in young Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran as his replacement.

Who is Smaran Ravichandran?

Smaran is a 21-year-old left-handed batter from Bangalore. He plays domestic cricket for Karnataka and has shown great form in recent tournaments. Even though he went unsold in the IPL 2024 and 2025 auctions, he stayed focused and kept scoring runs for his state team across formats.

He has played 7 First-Class matches, 10 List A games, and 6 T20s so far. In these matches, he has scored more than 1100 runs. SRH have signed him for INR 30 Lakh.

Breakout Performances in Domestic Cricket

Smaran made headlines during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his debut season, he smashed a quick 57 off 31 balls against Tripura. He ended the tournament with 170 runs at a strike rate of 170 — a great start to his T20 career.

He carried this form into the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, where he scored an unbeaten 100 in the opening match. He kept contributing consistently, with scores of 40, 83, and 76 in important games. His 101 in the final against Vidarbha helped Karnataka win the title after six long years.

In the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Smaran continued his excellent run. He scored a double century against Punjab, showing great patience and solid technique. His knock helped Karnataka take control of the match and gain a strong lead.

With Zampa ruled out, SRH now have a promising young Indian batter in their squad. While it’s a big change in terms of role, it also gives the team more balance and a fresh option in the batting line-up. For Smaran Ravichandran, this is a golden chance to prove himself on the biggest stage in Indian cricket.
