Delhi Capitals’ stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his joy after winning the match against Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs. Dhawan took the charge of the team in the fifth over as Shreyas Iyer walked off the field with a shoulder injury of the Royals’ innings.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, Delhi posted 161-7 on the scoreboard in the scheduled 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer of Delhi Capitals as he smashed 57 off 33 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. Shreyas Iyer also played well and contributed 53 runs for his side. On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw failed to impress DC fans and got dismissed by Jofra Archer on the very first ball of the Delhi innings.

After this, Archer sent Ajinkya Rahane (2 off 9) back to pavilion in the third over. Then Shikhar Dhawan and DC skipper Shreyas Iyer brought the match under their control by sharing an 85-run partnership.

Dhawan played a brilliant inning of 57 runs off 33 balls and became a top scorer of his side. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer was seeking the opportunity to play the big shots. He was batting on 38 off 37 balls and then he hit two sixes in an over of Jaydev Unadkat to complete his fifty off 40 balls.

Shreyas Iyer (53 off 43 balls) was dismissed by Kartik Tyagi and from here so on, Delhi Capitals looked struggling as they could manage to score only 32 runs in the last five overs while losing four wickets. Chasing the target, RR could manage to score only 148 for 8 and lost the match by 13 runs.

Speaking in the post match conference, Dhawan said that he was enjoying leading his side. He also said that his team was confident of getting work done because of lack of depth in Royals’ batting.

“I am glad that we won this game. Coming back into this was a great team effort. Quite enjoyed it. We always believed we had a chance. We knew their batting is not that deep.

“We knew we could get into them if we got the top order. And we have got experience in the bowling. Now we have got a gun bowler in Anrich. And Tushar bowled smartly too, bowling slower balls, making them hit to the bigger boundary,” said Shikhar Dhawan in the post match conference.
