4 Indian Women Cricketers To Feature In ‘The Hundred’
The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued NoCs to 4 Indian women cricketers to take part in The Hundred.
The BCCI has granted four India Women players No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for their participation in the inaugural season of ‘The Hundred’, the eight-team tournament.
The Hundred is a 100-ball professional league organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It is likely to get underway from the 21st of July and will witness some stalwarts of the game from all across the globe, take part in it.
The BCCI has handed No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to India’s T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, deputy Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma to participate in the inaugural edition of The Hundred.
A BCCI official has also confirmed the news, having said that the players would benefit a lot from being a part of the league that is being organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
“We have given NOC to four players and they are Harmanpreet, Smriti, Jemimah and Deepti. It should be a good experience for these players to go and be part of this new league,” the official told ANI.
The tournament was set to be played in 2020, but it had to be postponed amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament, organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is set to start on July 21. Along with the women’s edition, the men’s edition gets underway on July 22.
How Will ‘The Hundred’ Format Work?
The format of The Hundred states that an innings will comprise 100 balls with a change of end after every 10 deliveries. Bowlers will have to deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls, which will be decided by the captain of the team. Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game.
The women’s edition comprises eight teams with the tournament opener to be played between Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles at the Kennington Oval in London.
Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Trent Rockets, Southern Brave, Welsh Fire and Northern Superchargers are the other six participating teams in the championship. Except the four Indian players, Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry and Sarah Taylor are some of the prominent names to take part in the tournament.
