Hetmyer, Russell Return As West Indies Announce 18-Member T20I Squad For Home Series 2021

West Indies announces 18-men squad for T20I home series against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan.

The Cricket West Indies (CWI), on Tuesday announces 18-man squad ahead of the three back-to-back five-match T20 International (T20I) Series against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan.

As the West Indies continue their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in India in October-November 2021, the enlarged squad retains the mix of seasoned players and exciting young talent.

Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, and Hayden Walsh Jr. are among the players who retained their places from the 2-1 T20I Series victory over Sri Lanka in March.

The provisional squad will quarantine and practise in St. Lucia before facing South Africa in the first T20I series on June 26 at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium. Following that, the official squad will be chosen and revealed ahead of each Series.

CWI’s Lead Selector, Roger Harper, explained the reason behind choosing this squad:

“The Provisional T20I Squad was put together with all T20I Home Series Matches against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan in mind. This gives us the opportunity to continue to build towards the upcoming World Cup and to determine our best squad and our ideal eleven.
