India vs Australia 2020: KL Rahul Named Vice-Captain As India Announce ODI Squad For Australia Tour
BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the team for limited-overs cricket, as Rohit Sharma, an opener and vice-captain of the Indian team in ODI and T20 cricket, is injured.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced the Indian team for the Australian tour. Meanwhile, a piece of good news is coming for Wicket-Keeper batsman KL Rahul. The BCCI has appointed him as the vice-captain of the Indian team.
Actually, the Senior Selection Committee of BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the team for limited-overs cricket, as Rohit Sharma, an opener and vice-captain of the Indian team in ODI and T20 cricket, is injured. He has been excluded from the ODI, T20 and Test teams. In such a situation, KL Rahul has been selected by the selectors as the wicket-keeper batsman as well as the vice-captain of the team. KL Rahul has been the stand-in captain in a match.
Significantly, Rohit Sharma was injured on the tour of New Zealand this year and he was ruled out of the ODI and Test series. However, thereafter the Covid-19 pandemic led to a lockdown and he had a chance to recover from the injury.
Now in IPL-2020, he again got injured while playing against Kings XI Punjab. During the match, his left leg got a hamstring injury, which he is recovering from, but he has been kept out of the Indian team.
BCCI selectors have said that the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is keeping an eye on Rohit Sharma’s injury. If he recovers from injury in time, he can be included in the team. However, it is not yet known whether he will travel with the team on the tour of Australia.
Rohit Sharma May Rule Out Of IPL 2020:
After suffering a knee injury, he has not been playing matches for Mumbai Indians. Kieron Pollard is leading the team in his absence. No update has been given by the franchise so far regarding Rohit’s injury.
But as BCCI chief selector on Monday revealed that Rohit Sharma has suffered a serious injury, it has been speculated that he would be ruled out IPL 2020 also.
