“Yuvraj Singh is Now Listed as a Retired Player in The Board’s Records” – BCCI on Yuvraj’s Comeback

Yuvraj Singh has written a letter to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly asking the board’s permission to come out of retirement. Yuvraj Singh has agreed to make a comeback. Yuvraj said that Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary Puneet Bali contacted him and asked him to return from retirement.

Yuvi had also attended a training camp in Punjab earlier. There he spent time with many Punjab youngsters including Shubman Gill and Anmolpreet Singh.

Yuvraj has already announced his comeback but still, the final decision will be taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Yuvi is currently listed as a retired player in the BCCI’s record. So according to rules, Yuvraj might not be allowed to play for Punjab again.

Not just this, he has also received his one-time benefit and currently receiving a pension of Rs 22,500 per month.

According to reports of Times now, a board official said,

“Getting to spend time with someone as experienced as Yuvraj could be the best thing to happen for the young players coming into the Punjab squad. But then, he has not only received a one-time benefit post-retirement but also reportedly gets a pension of around Rs 22,500. These are all documented in the accounts of the BCCI as well from the time of his retirement in 2019. The final call lies with the board.”

After retirement, Yuvraj has played in two foreign leagues. He was a part of Maratha Arabians in the T10 league and Toronto Nationals in Global T20 Canada.

According to the rules of BCCI, a player has to retire from international cricket, domestic cricket and IPL to achieve NOC from the board.

Now even if Ganguly wants Yuvraj to make a comeback, the rules might not allow him to do so. Therefore, it will be quite difficult to comment on Yuvraj’s comeback now.

Earlier this year, BCCI had barred Pravin Tambe from playing IPL as he had taken part in T10 league in 2018. Tambe had retired from Indian cricket in 2018. Later he made a comeback in 2019 and was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2020. BCCI has denied his permission to participate in IPL as he was a retired player in BCCI’s record.

Later, Tambe went on to play for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League 2020.
