Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni hinted to give up the captaincy after registering a nine-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday in IPL 2020.

In the post match conference, Dhoni said that for the next year’s tournament there is a need to change the core group of the team and focus on the next 10 years. He also said that it is time to hand over this team to the next generation.

Tough Season For CSK

CSK could not qualify for the playoffs for the first time in the history of IPL, despite playing the season. MS Dhoni and Co won only six games out of 14 they played so far.

At present, it is not known whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct an auction before IPL 2021. Dhoni said a lot depends on what the board decides about the auction.

“A lot depends on what BCCI decides about the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and looks for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL we made a team that served us well for ten years. It’s time to hand it over to the next generation [paraphrased]. Message to the fans – we’ll come back strong. That’s what we’re known for”, said Dhoni in the post match conference.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which was already out of IPL, has spoiled the game of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. With this, Kings XI Punjab became the second team to get eliminated in the tournament after CSK.
