Shreyas Iyer, who made his Test debut for team India against New Zealand on Thursday (November 26) marks his arrival in style with a century on Test debut.

Iyer, who replaced India skipper Virat Kohli for the Kanpur Test against New Zealand, reached the triple-digit figure on Day 2 of the first Test at the Green Park Stadium.

Shreyas Iyer has registered his name in the record books by becoming the 16th Indian cricketer in the history of the Test Cricket to score a century on his debut.

The Mumbai-born achieved the 100-run milestone in 157 balls that was laced with 12 amazing fours and 2 marvellous sixers.

Iyer came to bat when India were struggling at 145/4 and he added an unbeaten 113-run stand with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and he ended day 1 with 75* runs in his kitty.

He continued his impressive run on the 2nd day with a couple of boundaries in Kyle Jamieson’s first over. Although his overnight partner, Ravindra Jadeja, fell early to Tim Southee, Iyer made sure it didn’t affect his game and reached three-digit figure.

Some of the biggest names to have scored a hundred on Test debut are: Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan.

The 26-year old made his ODI and T20I debut in 2017 but had to wait long to earn his maiden Test cap. Having led Delhi Capitals to the final of IPL 2020 last year, scoring 519 runs, Iyer suffered an injury setback earlier this year when he dislocated his shoulder.

After months of rehab, the 26-year old returned to cricket during the IPL and showed fine form, scoring 175 runs from eight matches. Later he was also drafted in reserve players list for T20 World Cup squad.
