Rohit Sharma Appointed India’s New ODI Captain; To Take Over From Virat Kohli Starting South Africa ODI Series

Rohit Sharma will also replace Ajinkya Rahane as the new vice-captain in Test cricket.

In the latest turn of events, the BCCI has announced Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain of the Indian cricket team. He will take over the captaincy from Virat Kohli starting the three-ODI series against South Africa in January 2022.

Rohit Sharma will also replace Ajinkya Rahane as the new vice-captain in Test cricket. Kohli, meanwhile will continue to lead the team in the longest format but Rohit Sharma will be his new deputy from the upcoming tour to South Africa. 

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward,” the BCCI tweeted on Thursday.
