Ross Taylor To Retire From International Cricket At The End of Home Summer

Ross Taylor, on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket. The New Zealand legend announced that his last series would be New Zealand’s two-match home Test series against Bangladesh and six ODIs against Australia and Netherlands.

Taylor retires as the most prolific New Zealand batter across formats having made his debut back in 2006 and accumulating 18,074 runs in 445 matches, which is the most by anyone from his country.

The 37-year-old said it’s been an honour to have represented New Zealand while thanking fans for support through his international journey.

“Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more tests against Bangladesh, and six odi’s against Australia & the Netherlands. Thank you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honour to represent my country #234,” Taylor tweeted.

The decision comes from New Zealand’s great just two days from the first Test assignment against Bangladesh at Mount Maunganui.

The schedule of the fixtures means that the 37-year-old Taylor will play his last game on April 4 at Seddon Park in Hamilton, where he lives with his wife Victoria and their three children.

Taylor had made his test debut against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2007 and has since accumulated 7584 Test runs at an average of 44.87. He also has 19 centuries to his name, second only to Kane Williamson (24).

Talking about ODI cricket, Taylor has appeared in 233 One-Day matches, ammasing 8581 runs, which is also a New Zealand cricket record.
