Glenn Maxwell, who failed to make an impact with his bat in the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, will try to regain his form in the upcoming ODI series against India, starting on 27 November.
Maxwell had done well with the bat in the limited-over series played against England before the IPL and will try to regain that momentum in Australia. Maxwell has said that the Australia team will benefit greatly from Rohit Sharma’s absence in the ODI and T20 teams, but he has asked the team to remain alert to KL Rahul.
KL Rahul had a brilliant IPL 2020 season. He was also the Orange Cap winner of the tournament with 670 runs in just 14 games. He also hit a scintillating century and smashed 132 runs off just 69 deliveries against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, posting the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history.
Glenn Maxwell, who was KL Rahul’s teammate in IPL 2020 praised him and said that the player has a great temperament and can stay calm in pressure situations
“He was a gun [in the IPL],” Maxwell told cricket.com.au of the 28-year-old right-hander.
“We [Australia] had a team meeting the other day and they came to me and asked how I thought we should get Rahul out, and one of the things I said was to try and run him out.
“So I think that’s what we’re going to try and do the whole way through the series, try and run him out and hope for the best.
“He’s a great performer got a great temperament, great head on his shoulders and is extremely calm in pressure situations,” Maxwell added.
At the meantime, Maxwell also accepted that he had a disappointing IPL season and said that he is now looking forward to the upcoming series against India.
“I was hitting the ball fine [in the IPL], I just wasn’t getting much of a crack but that can happen.
“I’m now looking at the bigger picture and understanding my role in the Australian side, trying to put the IPL aside and thinking about what I need to do to get ready for every game,” he said.
