KL Rahul Would Love To Keep Wickets For India In Next Three World Cups
KL Rahul in a recent interaction said that if he can keep putting consistent performances as a wicketkeeper-batsman, it will open the doors for the team of playing an extra batter or bowler.
India’s white-ball vice-captain KL Rahul has recently opened up on his performance as a ‘wicket-keeper batsman’ in team India. KL Rahul has been selected in all the three formats of the game against Australia.
KL Rahul was also the captain of Kings XI Punjab in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2020. His team, however, couldn’t make it to the play-offs but his sole performance in the tournament has earned many praises from the cricket fraternity. He was also the Orange Cap winner of the tournament with 670 runs in 14 games.
KL Rahul in a recent interaction said that if he can keep putting consistent performances as a wicketkeeper-batsman, it will open the doors for the team of playing an extra batter or bowler. Rahul’s success as a wicketkeeper-batsman can provide the Indian team with a lot of stability and flexibility. It will also allow the players to focus on their roles in a better way.
India will host the T20 World Cup in 2021 and 50-over World Cup in 2023. Australia, on the other hand, will host the 20-over World Cup in 2022.
“Nothing has been told to me, we as a team are not thinking that far ahead, World Cups are important, that is the long vision for every team but I think for me, we are still taking it one game at a time, and if I keep putting consistent performances as a keeper and batsman, it gives us the choice of playing an extra batter or bowler. If I can keep in the coming three World Cups, I would love to do it for my country,” Rahul said in a virtual press conference.
My Batting Position Will Depend On The Format I Am Playing: Rahul
Speaking on his batting position in the upcoming series against Australia, Rahul said that his batting position will depend on the format the team will be playing.
“My batting position will depend on the format I am playing and what the team wants from me and what combination sits better, the last ODI series we played, I batted at number five and I kept the wickets so yeah, it is a role that I enjoyed and I am happy to play whatever role the team gives me,” Rahul said.
“Look I haven’t played a lot of 50-over cricket for a continued period of time, though I have been a part of the Indian team for a few years now, I have not gotten a continued run in the 50-over format like this, it feels good that I am contributing for the team,” he added.
India will face Australia in three ODIs, as many T20Is and four-Test match series. The first ODI match will be played in Sydney on November 27.
