Virat Kohli’s Childhood Mentor Rajkumar Sharma Appointed as Delhi’s Chief Coach
Childhood mentor of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, Rajkumar Sharma has been appointed as the head coach of the Delhi team.
The childhood coach of Team India captain Virat Kohli and the former first-class cricketer, Rajkumar Sharma has been named head coach of the Delhi Cricket Team for the upcoming Indian domestic season 2020-21 starting with the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20.
Rajkumar Sharma, the former right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler has also won the Dronacharya Award in 2016 for the success his ward Kohli had achieved on the international stage. He has also coached Associate team Malta along with helping Delhi win the CK Nayudu Trophy (Under-23). Rajkumar was also a part of the camp with the India A women’s team as a coach.
Former India cricketer Gursharan Singh, who played a single Test and ODI in 1990 in New Zealand, has been named the assistant coach of the Delhi team and will be Sharma’s deputy.
DDCA Appoints New Physio & Trainer For The Delhi Side
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old Ashu Dani, who played 49 first-class and 41 List A matches from 1994 to 2001, has been named as the chairperson of DDCA’s selection committee consisting Mohan Chaturvedi and Chetnya Nanda as the other two members. The chairperson of the Cricket Advisory Committee, i.e. Atul Wassan or his nominee will also serve as the observer in the selection committee.
In another development, Umesh Chikara has been named as the trainer while Gajendra Kumar has been appointed as the new physio.
The refurbished Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad will host the knock-out matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 championship, from January 20-31.
The teams have been divided into six Groups – five Elite Groups and one Plate Group with Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Indore, Chennai and Vadodara being the venues for league games.
