Shikhar Dhawan Draws Similarities Between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma

Shubman Gill has got a bit of a Rohit touch in him: Shikhar Dhawan.

India captain Shikhar Dhawan heaped high praise on opening batter Shubman Gill and compared the 22-year old’s batting technique with star batter Rohit Sharma.

Dhawan, on Wednesday became the first-ever Indian captain to whitewash the West Indies on their home soil, as the Men in Blue rode on Shubman Gill’s career best knock of 98 to thrash the home team in their own backyard.

Gill earlier scored 64 and 43 runs in the first two matches and finished the three-match ODI series against West Indies as the leading run-scorer with 205 runs in three innings. Gill played a vital role in helping India clean sweep the series by providing solid starts to the team on all three occasions.

”He (Gill) has got a very good technique and he is a very classy player. I think he has got a bit of a Rohit touch in him. He seems to have a lot of time the way he bats. Good to see that he scored 98 today. He knew how to convert those fifties into 90s,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan further credited Indian domestic cricket and the IPL for helping youngsters with the exposure which further prepared them well for international cricket.

“The way the boys are responding, they are young but quite mature and sensible. They can handle the pressure quite nicely. Thanks to our domestic cricket and IPL because of that exposure, the transition to international cricket becomes quite easy. Hats off to all the boys. They have been very disciplined and quite practical,” Dhawan said.
