Virat Kohli Equals Ricky Ponting’s 71 Career Centuries; Only Behind Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli carried on his Asia Cup form with a splendid century.
The modern-day batting great Virat Kohli has ended his century drought and finally smashed a century in international cricket after 1020 days.
Virat Kohli bludgeoned 122 runs from 62 deliveries with the help of 12 fours and six sixes to reach the triple-figure mark for the first time since November 2019.
Thanks to Kohli’s belligerent knock and stand-in skipper KL Rahul’s half-century, team India finished up posting a mammoth total of 212/2 off 20 overs.
It was a score that proved more than enough as Men in Blue steamrolled Afghanistan by 101 runs with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar starring with the ball, picking up a five-wicket-haul (5/4 in four overs) to restrict the opposition to 111/8.
Following his 71st century, the former India captain has now equalled Ricky Ponting’s tally of 71 career centuries across format and finds himself only behind the batting great Sachin Tendulkar who has the 100 international centuries to his name.
