WI vs IRE Highlights: Ireland Knock West Indies Out of T20 World Cup 2022

West Indies vs Ireland, T20 World Cup 2022 - Highlights: Paul Stirling was the chief architect of the run-chase.

Ireland, on Friday, October 21, steamrolled two-time T20 World Champions by nine wickets at Bellerive Oval in Hobart to advance to the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

The result of Friday’s fixture also meant that the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies will now fly back to West Indies as Andrew Balbirnie and Co. knocked them out of the showpiece tournament.

Andy Balbirnie & Co. produced a stellar and disciplined bowling performance to restrict West Indies to a paltry 146 before chasing down the target without breaking a sweat.

West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bat first in the all-important clash. However, the decision backfired big time as the Men in Maroon got off to a horrendous start and could manage only 146 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

Brandon King did the bulk of the runs for his side, scoring an unbeaten 62 off 48 balls while Odean Smith’s (19 off 12) late flourish helped West Indies get a fighting total at the end of the first inning.

For Ireland, Gareth Delany bagged a sensational three-wicket haul while Simi Singh and Barry McCarthy got one wicket apiece.

After a brilliant show by the bowlers, their batters made light work of the run-chase as they gunned down the target with consummate ease with Paul Stirling smacking an unbeaten 66 off 48 balls and Lorcan Tucker playing a belligerent and unbeaten knock of 45 runs off just 35 balls.

Skipper Andy Balbirnie also played a flamboyant knock of 23-ball 37 as Ireland chased down the target in just 17.3 balls with nine wickets in hand. For West Indies, only Akeal Hosein could pick a wicket while their other bowlers were taken to the cleaners.
