IPL 2023 Retention: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Release Shivam Mavi Ahead of Mini-Auction

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Shivam Mavi back in the IPL Auction 2022 for INR 7.25 Crore.

The two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are expected to release Uttar Pradesh pacer Shivam Mavi ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction.

The Knight Riders acquired the services of Shivam Mavi for INR 3 crore in the 2019 auction. However, he couldn’t play for the franchise that season due to a stress fracture.

He played the 2021 edition of the tournament and churned out some decent performances with the ball. Later, KKR backed him and bought him back at the price of INR 7.25 crore in the mega-auction, held earlier this year.

Given his ability to bowl consistently at 140 km/hr, the franchise was expecting him to deliver some match-winning performances with the ball. However, he failed to live up to the expectations and justify his price tag.

In the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league, the UP pacer picked just five wickets in six outings at an economy of 10.32 and an average of 45.40. By releasing him ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction, KKR frees up INR 7.25 crore.

Here it is worth noting that all the worth that the franchises free up by releasing players ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction will be added to their purse and they can spend it in the auction to buy new players.

Earlier Gujarat Titans traded Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson and wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Kolkata Knight Riders while on Monday (November 14), Delhi Capitals traded Shardul Thakur to the two-time champions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked all ten franchises to submit the list of their retained and released players by November 15 while the mini-auction for IPL 2023 will take place on December 23 at Kochi.
