PSL 2023: Player draft to be held on December 8 in Karachi

The Pakistan Super League season eight (PSL 2023) draft will be held on December 15 in Karachi.

The draft for the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place on December 15 in Karachi. The date for the PSL 2023 draft has been finalised only after all six franchises mutually agreed to it.

“The availability of all top players will make PSL 8 a good event,” said PSL director Usman Wahla.

A total of 493 players, out of which 29 placed in the Platinum category and 81 in Diamond, from both full members like Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies and associate nations like the Netherlands, Scotland and Namibia have made themselves available for the player draft.

In the draft, all six franchises will have a right-to-match (RTM) card as well which will allow them to buy back one of their released players during the draft process. A team can have a maximum of 18 players on their roster.

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars will make the first pick. Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans will have the second and third picks while the fourth and fifth picks will belong to Karachi Kings and Islamabad United. The order was decided through a draw at the Pakistan Cricket Board offices.

Earlier, the player retention for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 was announced on November 11. In one of the most shocking trades ahead of the draft, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam moved to Peshawar Zalmi while veteran all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali joined the Karachi Kings.

Lahore Qalandars, the only franchise to retain two players, Rashid Khan and Shaheen Afridi in the platinum category won the PSL 2022 title by beating Multan Sultans in the final of the tournament under the captaincy of Shaheen Afridi. They will look to defend the title this season.

The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place on February 9 across four venues – Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan – with the final set to be played on March 19.
