IND vs BAN: Team India fined 80 percent match fees for slow over-rate during 1st ODI against Bangladesh

The Indian cricket team on Monday (December 5) was fined 80 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Bangladesh in the first One-Day International in Dhaka. 

Team India lost the match by just one wicket, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after the Men in Blue was ruled to be four overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. 

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over India fails to bowl in the allotted time. 

“Rohit Sharma, the India captain, accepted the offence after on-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel levelled the charge,” ICC said.  

India suffered a one-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh after Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman put up an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the 10th wicket on Sunday. The stand between the duo became the fourth-highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful ODI chase. 

Rohit Sharma & Co. had a terrible day with the bat as the visitors crumbled out for just 186 inside 42 overs after Shakib Al Hasan wrecked their batting lineup and picked a sensational five-wicket haul. Ebadot Hossain also took scalped wickets. It was KL Rahul who stood tall amid ruins and scored 73 runs to help India post a challenging total on the board.
