IPL 2023 Auction - CSK buy Ben Stokes for the whopping amount of INR 16.25 Crore

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought England all-rounder Ben Stokes for the whopping amount of INR 16.25 Crore on Friday (December 23) in the IPL mini-auction ahead of the 2023 season.

The England Test captain attracted bids from multiple franchises before finally moving to the Yellow Army. Apart from CSK, Lucknow Super Giants showed great interest in Ben Stokes but couldn’t get him.

For the unversed, Stokes is now the most expensive player for CSK in the history of the Indian Premier League, surpassing Deepak Chahar, who was bought by the four-time champions for INR 14 Crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction.

Stokes entered the auction at the base price of INR 2 Crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore competed with Rajasthan Royals before Lucknow Super Giants entered the bid at INR 7 Crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also entered the competition shortly followed by Chennai, who finally grabbed the services of the star all-rounder for Rs 16.25 crore, which is the third joint-highest price tag ever in the IPL.

He represented the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. The English all-rounder has played 43 games in the IPL, scoring 920 runs at a strike rate of 134.50. He has picked 28 wickets at an economy of 8.56.
