Mitchell Starc Likely To Be Ruled Out of 3rd Test Against South Africa

Mitchell Starc suffered an injury to his finger while attempting to take a catch at long-on.

Australia suffered another injury blow as their star pacer Mitchell Starc is reportedly in doubt for the third and final Test against South Africa in Sydney.

The left-arm fast bowler suffered an injury to his finger on Boxing Day (December 26) of the ongoing second Test while attempting to take a catch at long-on.

Providing an update on Mitchell Starc’s injury, here’s what Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said:

“I don’t know what he’s technically done, but it doesn’t look the greatest. He went out the back and tried to bowl, but I think it (felt) a bit different to be honest,” Lyon said.

“Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game and all we can hope for is that he gets the best possible result with the scan.”

Earlier, on the second day of the ongoing Test at Melbourne, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was forced to retire hurt after being hit on his arm by Anrich Nortje. His availability in the third and final Test has come under glare after the injury.

As for David Warner, the star Australian opener silenced his critics by smacking a belligerent double century, that too in his 100th Test match. However, he injured himself while celebrating his double ton wildly.

He was already suffering from cramps as he batted throughout the innings, and the celebration further aggravated his pain. He was then carried out of the field by the support staff teammates as he looked in severe pain.
