IND vs NZ: Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruled Out Of T20I Series, Prithvi Shaw Likely To Open

Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered a wrist injury.

Team India suffered a huge blow ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand as their star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of the series due to a wrist injury.

The Maharashtra batter will now report to National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for treatment. He last played a Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad.

He felt pain in his wrist after that game only. Notably, this is the second time Gaikwad has been ruled out of the series due to wrist injury. He earlier missed the Sri Lanka series due to the same.

Meanwhile, the Indian team management is unlikely to announce a replacement for this series, which ultimately boosts the chances of Prithvi Shaw’s return to the side.

After inflicting a clean sweep over New Zealand in the three-match ODI series, India will now march to the shortest format, with Hardik Pandya leading the troops in Blue.

The senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli have been rested for this series. The T20I series opener is set to be played on Friday, January 27 at JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi.
