Ben Stokes confirms his participation in IPL 2023
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) receive a big boost ahead of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Ben Stokes confirms his participation in the tournament.
The England Test skipper had been battling a knee injury throughout the recently concluded two-match Test series against New Zealand, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ben Stokes, in a post-match conference after Wellington Test stated that he has been in conversation with Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming regarding his workload.
“I am going to the IPL. I have had conversations with ‘Flem’ [Fleming] and he’s fully aware of the situation with my body. It’s a week-by-week case at the moment.”
Stokes further acknowledged that his knee injury has been slowing him down, but he is determined to recover in time for the Ashes, which will kick start soon after the completion of IPL 2023.
“I’ve got a four-month period now to get it better before the Ashes because I want to be turning up for the first Test in Birmingham able to fulfil my role properly.”
Ben Stokes has had a successful stint as England’s Test skipper, winning 10 out of 12 Tests since replacing Joe Root last year. South Africa and New Zealand are the only teams to have defeated England once each during this period.
