Baroda Suspend Deepak Hooda For Rest of Season For Indiscipline

The Baroda cricketer Deepak Hooda has been suspended by the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) for the entire domestic season for “indiscipline” and “bringing disrespect to the game.”
The apex council has suspended Deepak Hooda on Thursday (21 January) despite protests by some members. Hooda had walked out of the team on the eve of domestic T20 tournament after an argument with captain Krunal Pandya.
“He (Hooda) has been suspended for this season for indiscipline and bringing disrespect to the BCA and the game. Without informing the team and the BCA, he left the team and the (bio) bubble,” BCA secretary Ajit Lele told PTI on Friday.
Deepak Hooda, the right-handed batsman who was appointed as the vice-captain of Baroda for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 competition in this domestic season, abruptly left the team after a verbal spat with Pandya on 9 January and left the hotel. Deepak Hooda later sent an email to the BCA management and accused Pandya of abusing him during the practice session.
“At this moment, I am demoralised, depressed and under pressure,” Hooda, who has played 46 first-class matches, wrote in the email.
“As from last some days, my team captain Mr Krunal Pandya is using abusing language to me in front of my teammates and also other state teams who have come for participation at Reliance Stadium Vadodara.”
As part of the review, the BCA had sought clarifications from both Pandya as well as head coach and the team manager. Deepak Hooda will not participate in the current Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament as well as any upcoming domestic competition in the season.
“It was decided by the Apex council that Deepak Hooda has caused disrepute to the organisation and will not be considered to represent Baroda in the current domestic season,” the BCA said in a media release.
Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan looked unhappy with BCA’s decision of suspending Deepak Hooda. According to Pathan, with teams operating out of bio-secure bubbles, it was important to pay attention to the “mental health” of players and incidents such as Hooda’s could have “adverse” effect on the player.
