IPL 2023: KL Rahul to Miss Remainder of Tournament Due to Injury, Doubts Over WTC Final
Lucknow Super Giants' skipper KL Rahul has been ruled out for the rest of IPL 2023 due to an injury.
In what comes as a big blow for Lucknow Super Giants, their captain KL Rahul has been ruled out for the remainder of IPL 2023 due to an injury he suffered in his leg while fielding against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a recent match.
As per a report of Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken over the matter and will be closely monitoring his condition. While the exact type of injury is yet to be officially confirmed, there are speculations that it could be a hamstring or hip injury.
The wicket-keeper batter has made his way from Lucknow to Mumbai, where he is expected to undergo multiple scans to ascertain the nature and extent of his injury. The report further added that his prospects of featuring in the WTC final next month are slim.
The Lucknow Super Giants have not yet named a replacement for KL Rahul, and it remains to be seen if they will make any announcements, especially since only four league-stage matches remain. In the meantime, Krunal Pandya has taken on the role of captain for the team in Rahul’s absence.
What next for KL Rahul?
The Karnataka batter has had a difficult few months, having lost his place in India’s T20I and Test teams due to a string of underwhelming performances.
The IPL 2023 was supposed to provide him with a chance to redeem himself, but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to perform at his best and now, with his withdrawal from the tournament, he will focus on recovering fully and coming back stronger, especially with the 50-over World Cup slated to take place later this year.
