ICC World Test Championship: David Warner Calls for A Big Change in WTC Final to Decide the Champion, Read Here
Australian opener David Warner has expressed his opinion on the need for a significant change in the WTC Final.
Team India will lock horns with Australia in the final of the World Test Championship 2023, starting on June 7 at The Oval.
However, ahead of the much-anticipated clash, the Australian opener David Warner voiced his opinion on having a three-match series instead of a one-off Test to decide the ultimate Test champion.
David Warner was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo:
“I think it’s great. I have been – I won’t say critical – but I do think it should be at least a three-game series with Test cricket only. You play two years of good cricket, then you play on a neutral venue against an opposition. We’ve all played here before but [this game is] not against the same [host] nation.”
Warner further expressed his anticipation for the highly awaited championship final, emphasizing India’s strengths that they bring to the table, particularly their world-class bowling attack:
“It’s a great reward for the two best teams. Two world-class bowling attacks bowling with a Dukes ball on foreign land. It’s great and we’re excited for that. We’ve played some outstanding cricket over the last 18-24 months. We know what India will bring to the table. It’s a great neutral venue, two world-class bowling attacks with a Dukes ball and from a batter’s perspective, I can’t wait to get out there.”
Notably, this will be India’s second appearance in the WTC final, having previously competed in the 2021 season of the championship final against New Zealand, which ended in a loss. This presents a prime opportunity for India to break their decade-long trophy drought and finally lift an ICC title.
