On June 25, 1983, Kapil Dev-led India won their first-ever Cricket World Cup in a thrilling final against the West Indies at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, England.
The Caribbean side, after winning the toss, asked India to bat first and Kapil Dev’s men could only manage 183 runs on the board. Given the depth of the then West Indies team, it appeared to be an easy task for them.

Madan Lal and Amarnath were instrumental with the ball, scalping 3 wickets each with economies of 2.58 and 1.71 respectively. India created history by clinching the match with a commanding 43-run victory.
Captain Kapil Dev was the top-scorer of the tournament, scoring 303 runs in eight matches while Roger Binny, who’s currently the president of the BCCI emerged as the top wicket-taker by snaring 18 wickets in eight outings.
