IND vs WI: West Indies Announces Squad for Five-Match T20I Series Against India

West Indies will play five-match T20I series against India

West Indies have announced their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India. In a major update, wicket-keeper batter Shai Hope and fast bowler Oshane Thomas have been recalled to the team.

Hope, who currently leads the Men in Maroon in the 50-over format, last played T20I in February of the previous year. On the other hand, Thomas is gearing up for his first international 20-over match since December 2021.

Rovman Powell has been appointed as the captain of the team. The team has a robust lineup, strengthened by the presence of players like Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and vice-captain Kyle Mayers, who all have looked in good form of late.

The chief selector of West Indies Desmond Haynes opened up on the squad, stating:

The squad is selected with the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in mind. We are looking at various plans as we try to find the right combinations. As we prepare; we are looking to build a unit which we believe can do the job when we host the global event in just under a year.”

“We have some match-winners in our line-up and we will look to have the right kind of preparation, starting here in Trinidad on Thursday.”

Notably, the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America. Considering that, the forthcoming five-match T20 series against India provides a big platform for West Indies to fine-tune their preparations for the prestigious event.
