Hasan Ali, Naseem Shah, and Two Others Penalized for Code of Conduct Breach in LPL

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali was fined 15 percent of his match fees for engaging in a heated argument with the umpire

Pakistan pacers Hasan Ali and Naseem Shah, along with Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Chamika Karunaratne, have been fined by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for violating the code of conduct during a Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 match between Dambulla Aura and Colombo Strikers on August 5.

Notably, Dambulla Aura’s captain Kusal Mendis led the team to victory with his exceptional 87-run innings against Colombo Strikers. Meanwhile, Chamika Karunaratne, the Colombo Strikers pacer, had a tough time, conceding 55 runs in his four overs in the same match.

The tension escalated as the two players got into a heated argument, leading to the match officials’ intervention and disciplinary action. Later, Kusal Mendis was fined 10 percent of his match fee along with one demerit point under clause 2.21 of the LPL Code of Conduct.

Meanwhile, Chamika Karunaratne of the Colombo Strikers was fined 30 percent of his match fee along with 2 demerit points under clause 2.6 of the LPL Code of Conduct. The speedster was also charged with a fine of 25 percent of his match fee and 1 demerit point under Clause 2.21 of the LPL Code of Conduct.

In another incident, Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali, who represents Dambulla Aura in Lanka Premier League 2023, received one demerit point and was fined 15 percent of his match fees for engaging in a heated argument with the umpire.

Colombo Strikers’ pacer Naseem Shah was fined 20 percent of his match fees and a demerit point for violating clause 2.5 of the LPL Code of Conduct during the match against Jaffna Kings on July 30.

All of the above players admitted to the offences.
