The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently unveiled the 17-member squad for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup. The return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who had been sidelined due to injuries, marks a major highlight.
While Shreyas Iyer missed the entire 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, KL Rahul sustained a thigh injury during a match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore and was ruled out of the remaining tournament. Both players underwent surgical procedures and have now completed their respective recoveries.
During the announcement of the Asia Cup 2023 squad, the chief selector of Team India, Ajit Agarkar, confirmed that while Shreyas Iyer has completely recovered from his back injury, KL Rahul has recuperated from the injury he sustained during IPL 2023. However, he picked up a niggle and might miss the first couple of matches of the Asia Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, a video has surfaced on social media in which KL Rahul can be seen hitting six effortlessly during a practice session at a BCCI-organised camp in Bangalore, as part of the buildup to the Asia Cup 2023.

Judging from the footage, it appears that KL Rahul has fully shaken off the niggle, making his inclusion in India’s playing 11 for the Asia Cup 2023 highly likely. A pivotal figure at number five, Rahul’s consistent performance has bolstered Team India’s ODI setup. With the prospect of him featuring in all the matches, India’s chances in the prestigious event are looking promising.
