KL Rahul Ruled Out of Asia Cup Match Against Pakistan

KL Rahul will not be available for selection in the first two games of the Asia Cup 2023

India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, has confirmed that wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul will not be available for selection in the first two games of the Asia Cup 2023, as he hasn’t completed his recovery from the niggle he is carrying.

KL Rahul, who has been out of action since mid-IPL 2023, is back in the mix for Team India’s squad in the Asia Cup 2023. He has shaken off that thigh injury from the IPL, but now he has got the niggle issue, which means he is going to sit out the first two Asia Cup matches.

KL Rahul sitting out the initial two clashes of Asia Cup 2023 means he will miss the match against the arch-rivals Pakistan scheduled for September 2 at Pallekele Stadium, as well as the game against Nepal on September 4 at the same venue.

When it comes to facing Pakistan, KL Rahul’s track record in the last two T20 World Cups and Asia Cups has not been all that impressive. This event was a big platform for him to showcase his skills, but luck just is not on his side.

Meanwhile, Dravid also shared an update on Shreyas Iyer, who has been sidelined for the last four to five months and even sat out the entire IPL 2023 due to his back problems. Dravid informed the media that Shreyas Iyer will be up for selection in all the matches of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

“Shreyas Iyer is fully fit – he has ticked all the boxes – batted & fielded a lot in the camp,” Dravid told Star Sports.

Team India will undoubtedly feel the impact of KL Rahul’s absence, especially given his remarkable contributions at number five in the batting lineup. However, the return of Shreyas Iyer at number four should offer a sigh of relief.
