Zaman Khan, who came in as Naseem Shah’s replacement in the match against Sri Lanka, fought tooth and nail in the last over, but Charith Asalanka showed the nerves of steel, and whacked a boundary and took double on the last two deliveries to seal a victory for Sri Lanka.

In the lead-up to that critical juncture, Babar Azam handed the ball to Shaheen Shah Afridi, who displayed his brilliance in the penultimate over, taking two vital wickets – Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage – and conceding a mere four runs.

Kusal Mendis emerged as the match-winner for Sri Lanka, smashing 91 runs from 87 balls and shouldering the majority of their run-chase in the 252-run target. Sri Lanka is now primed for a showdown with India in the Asia Cup 2023 final in Colombo.
