This wicket propelled Starc to become the third-highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history, equalling with the legendary Sri Lankan bowler, Lasith Malinga.
This was Starc’s 56th wicket in the ODI World Cup, and he pulled it off in just 23 World Cup games, while Lasith Malinga took 29 innings to achieve the milestone. Mitchell Starc also outdid the Pakistani legend, Wasim Akram, who got 55 wickets in 33 ODI World Cup matches.
At the very top of this list is the Australian legend, Glenn McGrath, with a whopping 76 wickets in ODI World Cup history. Right behind him is Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralidharan, notching up 68 wickets. McGrath pulled it off in 35 World Cup games, while Muralidharan did it in 40.
