Morne Morkel Steps Down as Pakistan Bowling Coach Post Disastrous World Cup 2023 Run
Pakistan team failed to make it to the semifinals of the World Cup 2023.
Pakistan bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has resigned from his position following the disappointing performance of the Pakistan team in the 2023 World Cup. The team missed a spot in the semifinals, managing only four wins out of nine matches.
Having joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract back in June, Morkel’s tenure as Pakistan’s bowling coach was slated to conclude next month; however, he has chosen to step down.
The pre-World Cup acclaim of Pakistan’s bowling attack as the world’s best took a hit in the 2023 tournament. Their pacers were taken to task by batsmen, and the team seemed devoid of answers, appearing utterly baffled.
The strength of Pakistan’s bowling unit took a hit post the Asia Cup, notably due to the absence of Naseem Shah, sidelined from the World Cup with a shoulder injury.
Haris Rauf endured a tough tournament, becoming the most expensive bowler in a single edition of the World Cup, while Shaheen Shah Afridi faced some fitness issues in some matches.
After the ODI World Cup, Pakistan will fly to Australia to play three Tests, starting in Perth on December 14. Meanwhile, Morkel’s replacement has not been announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
