‘I Gave Away Too Many Runs’ – Arshdeep Singh Admits Below-Par Performance in T20I Series Against Australia

India beat Australia by six runs in the fifth and final T20I match of the series at Bengaluru to clinch the series 4-1. Arshdeep Singh stole the show by holding off the Men in Yellow, defending 10 runs in a nail-biting final over.

India set a target of 160 while batting first, and despite a strong effort from Matthew Wade, Australia fell short as Suryakumar Yadav turned to Arshdeep Singh in the last over. The Punjab pacer not only defended brilliantly, allowing only four runs, but also took the crucial wicket of Wade, limiting Australia to 154/8.

After the victory, Arshdeep Singh candidly admitted in the post-match conference that he struggled against the Australian batters throughout the series. Here’s what he stated:

“According to the standards we have set as an Indian team, it was not near par (speaking about his performances in this series) but there are a lot of learnings to take and hoping to come back stronger.”

Arshdeep Singh, who picked up two wickets while giving away 40 runs in his 4 over spell, further added:

“I was thinking that I gave away too many runs (in the first three overs) and was hoping for another chance, and thanks to God, I defended it and also thanks to the staff that they believed in me. Surya (before bowling the final over) told me whatever happens, happens, and credit goes to the batters as well. We had a cushion of 15-20 runs and it was definitely more than par.”
