Mohammed Shami finished the World Cup 2023 as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Indian cricket star Mohammed Shami received the prestigious Arjuna Award on January 9, 2024, presented by President Droupadi Murmu. The honour was bestowed upon Shami in recognition of his outstanding contributions during the ODI World Cup 2023.

Shami finished the World Cup 2023 as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, picking up 24 wickets from just 7 matches. Here’s what Mohammed Shami had to say:

“This award is a dream, life passes and people are not able to win this award. I am happy that I have been nominated for this award.”

Initially left out of the playing XI for the first four matches of the World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami made his entry when Hardik Pandya faced a severe ankle injury against Bangladesh on October 19.

Upon his comeback, Shami immediately left his mark in the tournament by securing 5 wickets against New Zealand. His exceptional form continued, as he finished with a total of 24 wickets, outshining star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
